Gary had to hold his breath as he walked past the kitchen. The interior was filthy with bottles and wrappers littered across the floor. A fly kept landing on his face as he tried to make his way through the gloomy room.
He turned the corner and found a dark stairwell. He held the revolver in front and ascended the stairs slowly, trying not to make a noise in the otherwise silent house. Once he reached the top, he quickly turned the corner and cleared the hallway. There were three doors, two on the right, one on the left. Gary slowly made his way to the first door.
He stood clear of the doorway as he tried the handle. It was unlocked. In one swift movement, he turned the handle, pushed the door open, and quickly cleared three corners of what he found to be a restroom. He peered through the crack in the frame and cleared the final blind spot behind the door. It was empty.
The second door opened to a storage closet. He did a quick search before turning his attention to the final room. He stood quiet, took a breath, and pushed the door open. The bedroom was more extensive than he'd expected. Three corners were cleared, he smoothly stepped into the room and cleared the fourth corner. He closed the door behind himself as he made his way to the empty bed. There was only one more blind spot.
Gary made his way around the bed, he took one step past the bed aimed his revolver at the furthest corner and found it empty.
A hand shot out from under the bed and grabbed his ankle. It pulled hard, causing Gary to topple backward. He caught himself with his revolver hand, giving the burly man enough time to scoot from under the bed and charge. He dove at Gary before he could shoot, slamming his head into Gary's chest. Gary grabbed the barrel of his revolver and slammed the grip into the man's temple, causing him to stumble. He swung again and again as the man collapsed to the ground. He sat on the man's back continued to swing blow after blow as he let his animalistic nature get the best of him.
