Claude saw movement in the distance and immediately dropped to the ground. He slowly pushed himself to his knees. It was difficult to tell, but he was reasonably sure it was Harvey. The person was crouched behind a log, just sitting there. Harvey had clearly spotted the officer and was hiding. If Harvey was waiting for the officer to get a safe distance away before moving, it would leave him a sitting duck for the next few minutes.
Claude knew this was his chance. He shifted his direction to the right trying to get to the opposite side where he couldn't see Harvey anymore. If he couldn't see Harvey, Harvey couldn't see him.
He moved slow, keeping in a crouch, doing his best to be as quiet as possible. Once Harvey's complete body was blocked by the log, he slowly began to move forward. He did his best to move in a straight line. Horizontal movement was easier to spot in the woods.
Once he was a short forty feet away, he lowered onto his hands and knees. Sound was his biggest hindrance. He needed to be silent until the final five feet. He did a quick scan of the woods. He could barely see the officer. Once he took the shot, it wouldn't be too difficult to slip away and hide before the officer got back.
Slowly he inched forward one slow pull at a time. When he was fifteen feet from the log, he carefully pushed himself to his toes, still keeping as low as he could. On the count of three, he would rush the corner.
