Chapter Forty

Christine watched from her window. She was helpless. It was too soon. The agents did not have the area secure. There were too many areas unaccounted for, especially on the side of the woods the three had just entered. Why was an officer-involved?

Claude was a bit more aggressive than she'd anticipated. At work, he'd always been so meticulous. She'd planned on him moving slow. Not once did he portray a man that would run gun's blazing into a firefight. She watched as he disappeared into the forest, knowing she'd been absolutely wrong.

"All agents on the southern line, move forward to the edge. Target has not been spotted, so move slow." She transmitted. Target hasn't been spotted because he's not here.

She was about to lose her one chance to get out. She feared she was about to dissipate what had been described to her as a huge Company asset. She didn't want to imagine what would happen to her if she came back having nothing to show. She could lose the target, she could lose Michael, but she could absolutely not lose both.

She viewed the trackers, they were closing in on each other. The officer was in the mix somewhere. She couldn't wait, she needed to get ready. Christine grabbed the keys from the counter and left the room.
